Ipswich Christmas Lights 2012
Its All About The Sparkle this Christmas in Ipswich as we're set to switch on our BRAND NEW Christmas lights on Sunday November 25th, & you're invited to help us celebrate!
This year we're all set for an afternoon of fabulous entertainment culminating with Father Christmas taking a special journey from Tower Ramparts to help switch on our new lights on the Cornhill.
Ipswich Borough Council, Ipswich Central & allaboutipswich.com have invested £100,000 in brand new awe inspiring lights & decorations, set to make Ipswich sparkle that bit brighter this Christmas. So bring the family, get your Christmas shopping done during the afternoon, then watch as Town 102 host a Christmas celebration leading up to lights being switched on at 5pm.
12pm – Festivities will begin with the snow cannons and musical entertainment.
12.30pm – 1pm – Samboomba, the Brazilian style percussion band, will be performing on stage in front of the Town Hall.
1pm – 1.20pm – Falling snow, street performers and musical entertainment will all be taking place to keep the crowds enthralled.
1.20pm – 1.40pm - New Wolsey Theatre pantomime preview screening – a chance to see a sneak peek of the entertainment that awaits at New Wolsey Theatre this Christmas.
1.40pm – 1.45pm – DanceEast will be presenting Boy Blue Entertainment for a special Yuletide treat. This hip hop theatre dance company will be showcasing their street dancing moves on the big screen outside the Town Hall.
1.45pm – 3pm – More snow is set to fall, with the Stilt Walking Reindeer, amongst all the other street performers!
3pm – 3.30pm – Red Rose Chain present ‘The Magic Fishbone’, a teaser of this wonderfully magical and Christmassy Charles Dickens adaption (showing at the Christchurch Mansion over the Christmas period) will be performed, with some of the original and exciting songs from the show.
3.30pm – 3.55pm – Award winning vocal harmony group, Funky Voices, will be bringing their wall of sound, energy and passion to the Town Hall steps with a medley of festive numbers.
3.55pm – 4.15pm – Wattisham Military Wives Choir will be making an appearance to sing Christmas Carols. Made up of wives and girlfriends of personnel serving at Wattisham Flying Station, the Choir has 50 members and was set up in January 2012, inspired by Gareth Malone’s television series ‘The Choir’.
4.30pm – 4.50pm – Ipswich Regent’s Christmas Pantomime – ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ will be putting an extra special show, specially created for the Switch On. Featuring Dancing on Ice Winner Sam Attwater as Prince, CBeebies Presenter Sarah-Jane Honeywell as Good Fairy, Sapphire Elia ‘Mia Macey from Emmerdale’ as Snow White and Blue Peter legend Peter Duncan as Muddles the Jester, this action-packed performance will be the perfect prelude to the Big Switch On itself…
4.55pm – The focus will shift to the Town Hall balcony, ready to welcome Father Christmas and the competition winners to truly begin Christmas, with the Switch On taking place at approximately 5pm; after the countdown and to the tune of ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day’.
It won’t be just the lights that are switched on this Sunday, but there will also be an extra special Christmas present to be unwrapped. All will be unveiled on Sunday but if you’re in and around Ipswich on Saturday, you may well be intrigued by the structure that will have appeared, as if by Christmas magic, on the Cornhill.
