Around 55 firefighters have been called to the village of Rougham after a roof caught fire.
Suffolk Fire Service were alerted to the thatch fire on Nether Street just before 10am, and have been battling it since.
A spokeswoman for the service said: "Good progress on fighting the fire is being made.
"Breathing apparatus and hose-reel jets are all in use."

Fire crews have been called from as far away as Orford and Newmarket to the village, which is just outside Bury St Edmunds.
The occupants are believed to have been evacuated from the property and there are no reports of any injuries.
