A new project to improve the mental wellbeing of fishermen across Norfolk and Suffolk is launching this month.

FishWell is part of the wider SeaFit programme and will provide old, new and retired fishermen advice on mental health.

It is a joint programme ran by the Fishermen's Mission and the Seafarers Hospital Society to offer counselling, physical and mental wellbeing checks and assistance with accessing voluntary sector services.

The service is to be provided both in the community and online.

It also aims to connect local fishing communities and improve the social lives of fishermen who are struggling.

Three events are kickstarting the project this month and next:

  • Wellbeing event: Henry Blogg Museum, Cromer from 10am to 2pm, Tuesday 25 February.
  • Wellbeing event: Harbourside Porta Cabin, King's Lynn from 11am to 2pm, Friday 28 February.
  • Fishermen's Reunion: Harbour Inn, Lowestoft from 6pm, Friday 27 March.
