Police name victim hit by car in lay-by on A12

Police have named a man who died after being hit by a vehicle on the A12 near Dedham

We are now in a position to identify a man who died following a road traffic collision on the A12 near Colchester.

Officers were called to the collision on the northbound stretch near Dedham at around 9.45pm on Tuesday, September 26. 

A man left his vehicle, which was parked in a layby, and was then in collision with at least one vehicle on the carriageway. 

Sadly, Darius Lapotka, 55, a Polish national, died at the scene.

No-one has been arrested and the road was closed until around 3am while officers investigated.
